Summary: Zefram meets someone who's just as much of a math geek as he is. Unfortunately, neither of them has any social skills.

"Hi!" said Zefram Cochrane, sitting down next to a beautiful blonde. "If you need a date, this is the luckiest day of your life. I'm about to become an international hero. After devoting most of my life to spatial warp theories, I have finally discovered a way between two points that is shorter than a straight line!"

"Big deal," she replied. "I found one in grade school."

"Really?" sneered Zefram. "What way did you find?"

"A straight line segment," she answered, getting up and leaving.

Humiliated, Zefram devoted the rest of his life to perfecting his use of mathematical terminology.
